The Wiccan Wheel – A Spiritual Journey Through the Seasons With Reiki and Tarot

By Tarot Master and Reiki Master Teacher Helen Renée Wuorio

Understanding the Wiccan Wheel

The Wiccan Wheel, often called the Wheel of the Year, represents the natural cycle of the seasons and the spiritual rhythm of life itself. It marks eight sacred points in the year, known as Sabbats, that celebrate the changing energies of nature as the earth moves through the cycles of birth, growth, harvest, and rest. For those who practise Tarot and Reiki, the Wheel offers a powerful framework for reflection, healing, and intuitive guidance.

From a combined Reiki Master Teacher and Tarot Master’s perspective, the Wheel of the Year is not simply a calendar. It is a living cycle of energy. Each point on the Wheel reflects a shift in the earth’s vibration and invites us to realign ourselves with nature. Reiki helps us balance and harmonise our own energy with these seasonal transitions. At the same time, Tarot allows us to explore the lessons, opportunities, and intentions associated with each phase of the year.

Beginning in spring, the Wheel turns through the seasons of awakening, expansion, harvest, and renewal before returning again to the quiet stillness of winter.

Imbolc
Imbolc

Imbolc – The First Signs of Spring

Imbolc is celebrated around the beginning of February and marks the first subtle shift from winter toward spring. Although the landscape may still appear cold and quiet, the returning light of the sun signals that the long winter is beginning to loosen its grip. Traditionally associated with the goddess Brigid, Imbolc represents purification, inspiration, and the quiet promise of new life beginning beneath the surface.

From a Reiki perspective, Imbolc is an ideal moment for gentle, energetic cleansing and renewal. Reiki helps clear away stagnant winter energy and supports the gradual reawakening of vitality, creativity, and motivation as the light returns.

A Tarot spread drawn at Imbolc focuses on inspiration and emerging possibilities. The intention of the reading is to identify the early ideas, insights, and intuitive nudges that are beginning to form, preparing the way for the fuller growth and new beginnings that will arrive with Ostara.

Ostara
Ostara

Ostara – The Spring Equinox

The journey begins with Ostara, celebrated around the Spring Equinox in late March. At this moment, day and night are perfectly balanced as winter releases its grip and the earth awakens. Flowers begin to bloom, animals become more active, and new life emerges everywhere.

From a Reiki perspective, Ostara is a wonderful time for energy clearing and renewal. Reiki helps release the heaviness of winter and restores vitality, allowing the body and mind to align with the rising energy of spring.

A Tarot spread drawn at Ostara focuses on new beginnings. The intention is to identify the seeds of opportunity emerging in your life and the potential paths that lie ahead as the year unfolds.

Beltane
Beltane

Beltane – The Celebration of Life and Growth

As spring deepens and warmth returns to the land, the Wheel reaches Beltane around the beginning of May. Beltane celebrates fertility, passion, creativity, and the full awakening of life energy within nature.

Reiki during Beltane is especially powerful for activating creativity and personal vitality. It supports the expansion of energy and helps individuals connect with joy, inspiration, and confidence.

The Tarot spread for Beltane focuses on growth and manifestation. The intention behind the cards is to explore how the ideas and possibilities first sensed at Ostara are beginning to develop and what actions will help them flourish.

Litha
Litha

Litha – The Summer Solstice

Litha arrives at the height of summer during the Summer Solstice, usually around June 21st. This is the longest day of the year when the sun reaches its greatest strength. It represents power, achievement, clarity, and illumination.

Reiki, at this time, helps stabilise and focus the season's intense energy. It encourages balance so that the strong solar energy can be channelled productively rather than becoming overwhelming.

A Tarot reading at Litha seeks clarity and insight. The intention of the spread is to illuminate the direction of your journey and reveal how your efforts are shaping the future.

Lughnasadh
Lughnasadh

Lughnasadh – The First Harvest

As summer begins to soften, the festival of Lughnasadh arrives around the beginning of August. It marks the first harvest and celebrates the rewards of effort and dedication.

Reiki during this period supports gratitude and grounding. It helps individuals recognise the progress they have made and encourages appreciation for what has been achieved.

The Tarot spread for Lughnasadh focuses on recognising accomplishments and identifying what is beginning to bear fruit in one’s life.

Mabon
Mabon

Mabon – The Autumn Equinox

Mabon occurs during the Autumn Equinox in late September when day and night are once again balanced. It is a time of reflection, gratitude, and preparation for the darker half of the year.

Reiki can be used at Mabon to restore balance and encourage emotional harmony as the pace of life begins to slow.

Tarot readings at Mabon are intended to review the year so far, helping individuals understand the lessons learned and what still requires attention before the cycle closes.

Samhain - Halloween
Samhain - Halloween

Samhain – The Veil Between Worlds

Samhain, celebrated around the end of October, is one of the most spiritually significant points on the Wheel. It represents the end of the harvest and the beginning of the spiritual new year. Traditionally, it is believed that the veil between worlds becomes thinner during this time.

Reiki at Samhain encourages deep reflection and spiritual protection. It supports inner healing and connection with intuition.

Tarot spreads at Samhain are often focused on insight, spiritual guidance, and the release of what no longer serves us.

Yule
Yule

Yule – The Winter Solstice

The Wheel completes its cycle with Yule, the Winter Solstice in December, when the longest night gives way to the gradual return of light. Though winter appears quiet and still, it carries the promise of renewal.

Reiki during Yule promotes deep restoration and peace. It helps individuals conserve energy and reconnect with inner strength during the darker months.

A Tarot spread at Yule focuses on hope and vision. The intention is to glimpse the possibilities that will emerge as the Wheel begins to turn once again.

The Wiccan Wheel reminds us that life moves in cycles rather than straight lines. Through Reiki, we maintain energetic harmony with these seasonal shifts, while Tarot helps us understand the lessons and opportunities each phase brings.

By working with both practices throughout the year, we remain connected to nature’s rhythm and better prepared to grow, reflect, harvest, and renew as the Wheel continues its eternal turning.
